About Us

Coffee without the klatch

In the Women's Writing Group, we don't just talk about writing—we write. Short stories, poetry, screenplays, novels: Our members are working in all of these genres and more. We offer a supportive atmosphere for women writers working at all levels. Some of us are published writers, and others are just getting started.

Every three weeks (or so), we meet at the AWCZ Clubhouse to share our work and explore topics in writing and publishing. We've recently covered character development, dialog, and POV. We've also discussed the editing process, handling rejections, and crafting query letters. The group's leader, Ellen Magee, provides writing exercises for each meeting to ensure we all do the one thing all writers must do: write.

Following our discussion period and coffee break (Yes, there is coffee!), members present their current work, whether it's a novel in progress or an answer to the previous session's exercise. Writers looking for first readers for their projects can also request in-depth reviews and critiques from fellow members.

We write in English, but our life histories are as varied as our home countries. We're young and old; we're stay-at-home moms and successful professionals. We are all writers.  If you're a woman writer in the Zürich area and would like to join us, contact Ellen (e [dot] magee [at] bluewin [dot] ch).
